- Frieda Elizabeth Bogisch was born and grew up on the Ebenezer Mission Station. At 10 years old, Frieda and her brother Gerhard, were sent together to Germany for their formal education. Brother Alfred was sent later. [Frieda spent 7 years in Germany.] They had only been in Germany for one year when their mother died.
When Frieda returned home, her father had remarried and there were times of friction between them, so she went to Melbourne where she found a position as a governess. She did, however, get along with her stepmother, Henriette, extremely well.
After her father died, a close bond existed between Frieda and her stepmother's new family, the Franks, [Henriette had remarried after the death of Frieda's father and moved to Queensland] and Frieda and her children managed to make visits to Queensland, by sea in those days.
