- Reverend Herman [Paul] Bogisch, born in Sagan, Schlesian, Germany [which is now Zagan, Poland, since the border was changed during WW2], at first followed in the footsteps of his father, a master weaver. It was not long though, before he left the trade to study theology.
In 1876, he and Sister Amalie Jindrova, were called to work in Australia as missionaries. He was ordained deacon at Herrnhut, Saxony on3 June 1877, and he married Sister Amalie Jindrova at Neusalz, Prussia, also in 1877.
By 6th August that year, they had arrived in Melbourne and at the Ebenezer Mission Station on 14th August. Paul and Amalie had four children:
1. Frieda Elizabeth
2. Gerhard Paul
3. Alfred Herman
4. Valerie Gertrude
In September 1888, his wife Amalie, died of consumption.
In 1890, he was married again to a French Moravian Missionary, Sister Henriette Guymuller, in the Moravian Church at Bethel in South Australia.
[Hence the inscription on his grave, "beloved husband of H.Bogisch"]
